Stage 1 of the New Zealand Clean Energy Centre is the first development on an area of land designated as a Science & Technology Park at the southern gateway to Taupo. The Centre has attracted tenants from Europe, Australia and New Zealand, all of whom see the value of operating in a collaborative cluster environment. Frequent events will attract prospective customers, business partners, personnel and even funding opportunities for building tenants.

The photo above shows the northeast aspect of the centre. The curved wall is opaque - designed to harvest natural light so the need for electric lighting is minimised. Photovoltaic panels that can deliver up to 1.6kW of electricity are shown across the front of the building.

 The photo above is the Northwest perspective and more clearly shows the photovoltaic panels. Other on site electricity generation comes from photovoltaic laminate on the roof, plus two wind turbines - one rated at 2.5kW and the other rated at 6kW. Most of the time the Centre will be exporting electricity to the grid.

This photo shows the atrium of the building with massive glue laminated timber beams made from sawmill offcuts. The photo was taken during the concert held on our Open Day, May 13, 2011 and illustrates how the atrium may be used for events.
