Initial funding for the NZCEC has been provided through a Major Regional Initiative grant from NZ Trade & Enterprise, as well as founding partners Energy for Industry and Fitzroy Engineering. Taupo District Council has also made a significant contribution.

From an operational perspective, Rob McEwen is CEO, Nick Adams is Team Leader, Biomass, Russell Judd is Bioenergy Solutions Manager, and Ian Thain is Team Leader, Geothermal.
